A family friend choked on a digestive biscuit this past weekend and it was a good thing someone was there to give him the Heimlich Manoeuvre. It dislodged the biscuit and it came flying out.
It’s a good technique to have and everyone should know how to perform it on others and themselves (usually using the back of a chair), but what happens if the Heimlich isn’t enough? This article from The New York Times explains (although I definitely recommend leaving the cricothyrotomyto the professionals).
